Can a power station back up your house?

Sometimes, for some circuits. Here is how a large portable power station compares with an installed home battery such as Tesla Powerwall 3, using each maker's published specs.

A portable power station is a battery, inverter and outlets in one box. Small ones run a laptop; the largest are marketed for home backup and can connect to a transfer switch or a smart panel. An installed home battery such as Tesla Powerwall 3 is mounted on a wall or floor, wired into your home's electrical system by an electrician, and usually paired with equipment that switches your home to battery when the grid fails.

Where a power station works well

Where an installed battery works better

The connection is the key question

Running extension cords from a power station to appliances works for a few devices. Powering household circuits is different. That needs approved equipment such as a transfer switch or smart panel, installed by a licensed electrician, so the battery can never feed power back into the grid. Both EcoFlow and Jackery sell their own home-connection products (for example the EcoFlow Smart Home Panel 3 and Jackery's Smart Transfer Switch), which also add cost.

Never plug a power station or generator into a wall outlet to feed power into the house ("backfeeding"). Use approved transfer equipment installed by an electrician.
